About

I can’t wait to get to know your unique story.

Meet Your Therapist

Hi, I’m

Jessica Armitage

Licensed Professional Counselor
(LPC-MHSP)

I’m passionate about help women with ADHD, because I’ve been in your shoes, and I know how exhausting it can be. You want someone who not only gets what it’s like to have ADHD, (especially as a woman), but also understands how it shows up differently for us—and has the training and knowledge to back it up. Life with ADHD can be a beautiful mess—emphasis on the mess—and when you add anxiety or trauma into the mix, it can feel completely overwhelming, like you’re just trying to keep your head above water.

Here’s the thing: I’m not your “standard issue” therapist. With me, you’re not getting someone who just sits passively and doesn’t engage you outside of just the typical “uh huh.” We’ll laugh (even if it’s a random squirrel moment to avoid discomfort) , but we’ll also get real about what’s actually going on. Also, sometimes, a well-placed swear word is exactly what you need to express the chaos. That’s welcomed here. You’re welcome here. We’re in this together, and my goal is to make therapy feel like something you actually want to show up for.

My Therapy Style

Therapy with me is like sitting down with a friend with a warm cup of coffee (where you feel comfy and safe), who isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and help you sort through the mental clutter. I’m relatable and straightforward, but I’m also here to help you dig into the deeper stuff that keeps you stuck. I share relatable stories because I believe it’s important to know you’re not alone in your journey. I’m not a blank slate type of therapist; I’m a human alongside you. While I bring my training and qualifications to the table, my genuine engagement with the education and research means I’m equipped to provide the specific support you need.

I won’t sugarcoat it—living with ADHD, and Anxiety can be tough, and it often comes with a side of shame, self-doubt, and feeling like you’re somehow defective (p.s.—you’re not). Plus, since trauma can make ADHD symptoms worse, (and trauma can even micmic ADHD symptoms), we’ll dive into how those past experiences might be affecting your present. Whether it’s processing that trauma or learning to manage the constant stream of thoughts, we’ll work together to find what works for YOU.

My Goals for you

In therapy with me, I want you to find permission to forgive yourself for being human, because let’s face it, nobody’s perfect. You’ll pick up real, practical strategies to manage your ADHD, to learn techniques to reset your fight or flight response, to heal from past trauma that has been such a heavy burden for too long. I see you. We’ll tackle perfectionism and embrace the fact that you’re already enough (say that twice). Communication skills and boundaries will become your new superpowers, helping you navigate relationships like a pro rather than a people-pleaser. Plus, you’ll finally evict those old, nagging beliefs that have been living rent-free in your head for way too long. My goal for you is to graduate therapy feeling empowered, confident, grounded and to have found your peace.

We’ll work together…

Therapy isn’t a one size fits all approach. Your story is unique. YOU are unique. Together we will set goals that make sense for your life, not someone else’s. Whether you’re looking to build healthier relationships, to be able to sit in the discomfort of heavy emotions (while not getting overwhelmed), or just calm your nervous system down—I've got you. We’ll also work on boosting your self-compassion, helping you grow your confidence, giving you practical tools for managing ADHD and Anxiety, and techniques to process the trauma you’ve experienced. And don’t worry, everything comes from a trauma-trained and trauma-informed place because I know how important it is to feel safe while you’re doing this work.

Clinical Experience

    • Master of Arts, Professional Counseling, Liberty University (2011)

    • Bachelor of Science, Psychology, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (2009)

  • My post-graduate journey included more than 3,000 hours of clinical work, complemented by 150 hours of supervision. This rigorous training equipped me with the skills and knowledge to effectively support my clients and I have continued my dedication to actively learn and research to better serve my clients.

  • With over 13 years of experience in the mental health field, I have honed my ability to connect with and support women through their healing journeys. My diverse background spans various settings and populations, enriching my practice with a wealth of insights and techniques.

My counseling career began in 2011, where I led Anger Management and Substance Abuse groups for children and teens.

From 2012 to 2018, I worked in community mental health in various roles: providing in-home therapy to children and teens in rural areas around Clarksville, Tennessee, two years in outpatient settings working with children, teens, and adults, and three years providing school-based therapy to elementary students. These experiences allowed me to develop a versatile skill set and a deep understanding of diverse mental health challenges.

In 2017, I launched my private practice, focusing on young adult women struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, and trauma. Throughout my work with women, I started to notice a connection with anxiety, trauma and ADHD, which in 2023, marked a significant shift towards specializing in ADHD and its impact on women's lives, enabling me to offer targeted and effective support.

  • My dedication to continuous learning and professional growth has been pivotal to my success as a therapist. By staying updated with the latest research and evidence-based practices, I ensure that my clients receive the most effective and compassionate care. My extensive training and hands-on experience have empowered me to create a therapeutic environment where women feel understood, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Here are some of the key trainings that have shaped my practice:

    • Somatic & Attachment Focused Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (SAFE EMDR)

    • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

    • Trauma Training: Foundations of Trauma Treatment, Ethics of Trauma Treatment, Trauma Interventions

    • "The Three Instincts," Enneagram Institute Authorized Workshop

    • Evidence-Based Practices for Anxiety Management (Panic Disorder, Pure O OCD)

    • Essential Tools & Skills for Women with ADHD: Specialized Assessment and Comprehensive Treatment Strategies

    • ADHD and Executive Functioning

My passion for understanding ADHD, especially in women, drives me to research extensively in this area. I focus on how ADHD intersects with anxiety and trauma, allowing me to tailor my therapeutic strategies to meet the unique challenges faced by my clients. This specialized knowledge ensures that my approach is both informed and effective.

I continuously seek out trainings, read books, listen to podcasts, look up research articles that align with the needs of the women I serve. The list above does not include every training attended.
